"Sausage Gravy and Biscuits"
Recipe from "Cranberry Manor Bed and Breakfast"
We brought a little bit of down home southern cooking to the Pocono’s. We had a guest from NY who looked at the plate with a look of you want me to eat this. We didn’t think we would get the fork back from him as he kept licking the fork and scraping his plate asking what we called that dish it was really good.
You can serve with store bought biscuits or use our 7up Biscuit recipe one of our guests shared with us from another Bed and Breakfast.
Serves: 4
Cook Time: About 45 Minutes
For Sausage Gravy:
1lb of Jimmy Dean Sausage (Don’t substitute brand)
2 Cups of Milk
¼ Cup of Flour
Salt and pepper to taste
2 – 3 Dashes of Cayenne Pepper (Optional)
Directions:
Over medium heat, cook sausage in a large skillet preferably cast iron or enameled pot if available.
When all sausage is cooked, no longer pink, remove half of the sausage from the pan and allow to drain on paper towels.
Continue cooking remaining sausage in pan to brown up in color.
Stir flour into the pan with the browned sausage and cook over low heat for about 5 minutes or till the sausage starts to get foamy bubbles.
Gradually add milk stirring constantly. Add remaining well drained and cooked sausage back into the pan. Return to medium heat and stir occasionally while the gravy comes to a simmer and thickens. Salt and Pepper to taste and add a couple dashes of cayenne pepper if you like.
Serve over hot fresh split biscuits. You can use store bought biscuits or try our “7UP Biscuit Recipe” which one of our guests gave us during their stay. The 7Up Biscuit Recipe is very light and buttery and made with only “4” ingredients.
For a special added touch, we top our sausage biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese over the gravy and biscuits.
